LONTANA GROUP IS COMMITTED TO GREEN STEEL

LONTANA GROUP reinforces its commitment to sustainability with the acquisition of the first two cold-rolled steel coils made through low-emission steel production.

VINCO, a benchmark company within the Lontana Group in the supply of strip, wire and cable, drives its alliance with ARANIA with the global aim of contributing to the decarbonisation of the metallurgical industry. ARANIA is the leading manufacturer of precision cold-rolled steel in Southern Europe and the collaboration between the two companies has facilitated a sustained expansion across different markets.

Green steel refers to steel produced through CO₂-free processes, using renewable energy and industrial processes that dispense with coke and, thus, do not emit CO₂ into the atmosphere.

This transition is giving rise to significant change across many sectors, especially the automotive sector, which is also undergoing a process of mobility electrification.

The world’s major steel makers have already launched all types of investments in order to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. However, European steel leaders estimate that steel production costs will increase to ensure the required CO₂ emissions level by 2050, predominantly due to the need for huge investments in plant upgrades.

The two steel coils received at VINCO have been produced using hot-rolled material made by melting recycled steel scrap and environmentally friendly energy sources. This achieves a 71% lower CO₂ footprint than the conventional production using the blast furnace route for the raw materials required for the cold rolling process.

This initial step is the beginning of the transformation that LONTANA GROUP and VINCO are initiating towards the distribution of steel with reduced emissions and to contribute to the improvement of the planet and the fight against climate change.
