TIN-PLATED STRIP: CORROSION RESISTANCE

CHARACTERISTICS OF TIN-PLATED STRIPS

Tin-plated strip is characterized by a tin coating that protects the steel against corrosion and prevents deterioration of the base material. The chemical composition of tin-plated strip is determined by the maximum weight percentage for Type A steels or Type B steels and is governed by the EN 10202 standard for cold-rolled steels for packaging. For details of each of these, please refer to the product data sheet section.

The approximate density of tin-plated strip is 7.85 kg/dm³ regardless of the format in which it is supplied. The weight of the coil is calculated taking into account the inside and outside diameter, as well as the material from which the strip is made. These three factors are important when calculating the total weight, but to facilitate this operation, VINCO has a weight calculator that helps you to obtain the final value without complications.

FINISHES, COATINGS AND TOLERANCES

The finishes and coatings of tin-plated strips are governed by EN 10202, which applies to cold reduced steels for packaging. The finishes are: bright, fine stone, stone, silver and matte. All of them are determined according to the base steel - mild, fine stone, stone and shot-blasted - and the nominal roughness of the steel. Discover the terms and definitions in the table in the finishes section of the product data sheet.Por su parte, los recubrimientos se especifican según unos valores puntuales de g/m² mínimo y máximo diferenciados para aplicaciones con soldadura a alta velocidad y otras aplicaciones.

Tolerances are divided into thickness tolerances, width tolerances and deflection tolerances (arching of the strip for a given length). Thickness tolerances are subject to EN 10202 and the material thickness must meet the conditions specified in the tolerances section of the data sheet. Width tolerances take into account the nominal thickness of the tin-plated strip and are defined for products with sheared edges under commercial agreement. Finally, the deflection tolerances are calculated according to the nominal width depending on the edge curvature.
